Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences
13 September: 2pm, 3pm
Ever wondered what goes on in the bottle of shampoo or a pack of medicine? All these products were developed from ideas that were tested in a chemistry research laboratory. A far cry from the intricate glassware and bubbling potions seen in movies, a modern research laboratory has sophisticated tools that allow chemists to apply their skills to assemble and analyse new molecules that could one day change the world. At the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences (ICES), you will be given a short presentation on the types of research being undertaken at its Jurong Island and Biopolis facilities, and how this impacts Singapore. Following this, you will enjoy a short laboratory tour, where some of the day-to-day tools of the research chemist will be shown. Our guides will be on hand to address all the questions from your inquisitive mind!
